Introduction

The Department of History, Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya was established in 1985. It was initiated primarily as a department for History General Course. Later it received affiliation to teach Honours Course in the year 1998.

    The Department organizes seminar/ webinar sessions, and special lectures to promote research interest among students. Students are also encouraged to make academic inquiries into local history.

    The Department organizes study visits frequently. We visited the Indian Museum, 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, kol-16 on 19.12.2019, Sukharia (18th-century eight-sloped roof) Anandamoyee temple on 27.06.2022, Hazarduari -An UNESCO World Heritage Site on 22.11.2022, Bishnupur, an excellent place of seventeenth-century terracotta and stone artwork on 14th March 2023.

    The faculties of the Department present papers at national and international seminars/conferences. They also have a large number of publications to their credit, which include papers in national/international refereed journals.

    Along with these activities, almost every year department of History prepares a wall magazine that is open to all semester students from the Department of History.
